You’re a solopreneur if you are a One-person company. The typical solopreneur has either started his own business on the side of his corporate job or he/she is 100% dedicated to it. In 2021, around 41.8 million people identify as a one-person company in the US. This number continues to rise as people battle to find real jobs and thus has to get creative. This rising trend is also observed in other geographic areas such as Europe or Africa.
As a solopreneur, your first step is to find customers willing to purchase the product you sell. HOW? You need to stand-out from the crowd. Nobody is gonna pay you if you’re completely unknown.
Here’s the process to find your niche in four steps:
What’s the most painful problem they have? What’s the occurence of this problem? When was the last time you encounter this problem? Why is it still a problem? What do they dislike about existing solution?
2. choose ONE problem and focus only on that one
This step is pretty important. Your objective is to be identified as “The expert on ONE topic” , only one. You need to enjoy talking or writing on that topic. You have to build your “personal brand” around it by giving valuable insights to your audience about it. Samples of questions to ask yourself : Do I like talking about X? Can I talk about X during hours/days non-stop?
3. select a growing market
A growing market is usually full of pains for your target audience. It offers possibilities to grow faster. Few questions helping you assess the maturity of your target market : Who are the main actors? What is the growth potential?
4. assess the ability to get paid by your target audience
Do you know people like your ideal customer? What’s their ability to purchase your solution?
